What is the twinning about?

In 2003, charters were signed and exchanged between the communities of Bourne End and Octeville-sur-Mer to foster friendship, mutual understanding and respect and to encourage communication and exchanges between the two communities. Octeville is about five miles outside Le Havre and its centre is about one mile from the cliffs along the Channel. Its population, spread over a wider area, is similar in size to Bourne End, and there is an active village life with a number of fêtes and excellent sporting facilities.

Formal links between the villages is through the Bourne End (Bucks) Twinning Association and the Comité de Jumelage in Octeville sur Mer, but now there are also a number of informal links as well. There have been visits of football teams, third age citizens and year 5 schoolchildren visited in 2005.  Octeville is well supported by its Commune (the equivalent of the Parish Council) and its mayor. BEBTA is self-financing and the BEBTA Committee run a number of events to support the Association's activities.

The Octevillais are sociable, warm, very friendly and enthusiastic.  Most of our members have had great fun during visits and have made lasting friendships.  Language has not been a barrier to having a good time, so what are you waiting for.  Join today!
